Hematite -   This is a package of about 50 beautifully polished pieces of hematite. The individual pieces measure from about 5mm to 20+mm and would be perfect for wire wrapping or other crafts. The picture is representative of the individual packages of 50. $12.50 ($2.50 shipping)

Renaissance Birthstone Display - Most gem scholars agree that the tradition of birthstones arose from the Breastplate of Aaron, a ceremonial religious garment set with 12 gemstones that represented the 12 tribes of Israel and also corresponded with the 12 signs of the zodiac and the 12 months of the year. Throughout the ages, different cultures developed different birth stone lists. This gorgeous display consists of gemstones from a 15th-16th century European list. $17.50

Apache Tear - This is a huge, natural, unpolished Apache Tear, excavated in Arizona. It is mounted on a heavy laminated background that is cut to fit a standard 5" x 7" frame which you can get at your local WalMart for about $2.50 for one like the one pictured (not included). The background has the history of the Apache Tear legend and photos of Geronimo and Cochise, the two most famous Apache chiefs. Apache legend tells us that an Apache Brave was forbidden by the gods to go to war without one of these sacred stones, the Apache tear on his person. It is rumored that as late as the last half of the 19th century Geronimo and Cochise, the most famous of the Apache chiefs, instructed their warriors to carry these small, black charms when they went to battle. Geronimo is known to have had one of these stones when he escaped from a U.S. Army prison in 1869. White men who have made friends with the Apaches have been given these stones as a token of friendship, and never had to fear for safe passage through Apache territory when they presented their stones to war parties. Even today these stones are held sacred by the Apache tribe and are used during their secret tribal rites. Apache tears were formed by nature millions of years ago from volcanic action and are only found in a few places in the world. They are actually obsidian, a natural volcanic glass. When lava is thrown from a volcano and cools rapidly, the result is this black glassy material. This particular one is most unusual in that it is larger those normally found. Keep in mind, Apache tears should be handled with care. Like glass, obsidian is very sharp when broken. I was able to get several of these giant Apache Tears and the picture is representative. $17.50

This is for a pair of incredibly strong hematite magnets. I had never seen anything like these prior to fossil wholesaler's last visit. They must be kept away from pacemakers, credit cards, computers, cell phones, or anything else affected by magnets. They are great to play with. Separate them with a finger and throw the pair into the air and listen to the loud rattle as they fall. You can even put one on each side of your ear lobe for a really unusual earring. The more you play with them the more you will find to do with them. They each measure approximately 2.5" long and come in a small glass top case. Warning...It's best to throw them over grass or a thick rug. If they hit concrete they will shatter like glass. $7.50/pair

Tiger eye, also spelled tiger's-eye and tigereye. Tiger eye is also called crocidolite cat's-eye or African cat's-eye. It has a rich yellow and golden brown stripes, with a fine golden lustre when polished. Tiger eye is quartz that contains oriented fibres of crocidolite that have been replaced by silica. It is displaying chatoyancy (a vertical luminescent band like that of a cat's eye) . Tiger eye typically has lustrous alternating yellow or brown bands.
With its bands resembles an eye of tiger, so it is received its name due to this similarity.

Tiger Eye is the anniversary gemstone for the 9th year of marriage. Roman soldiers wore tiger's-eye for protection in battle. Tiger Eye was thought to be all seeing due to its appearance.

Tiger Eye is used for focusing the mind. It is said that Tiger Eye offers protection during travel, strengthens convictions and confidence. This very warm stone is beneficial for the weak and sick. Some believe Tiger eye relieves high blood pressure. Tiger eye wear is very helpful in the presence of following diseases: bronchial asthma, kidney, rheumatic heart disease, otitis and psoriasis.

The most important mine for Tiger Eye is in South Africa. The best stones come from Griqualand West. Comes with a descriptive card. Inquire about quantity purchases. $.99 each or $18.00 per pound

Bloodstone - Also called heliotrope, bloodstone is a dark green translucent chalcedony. The green color results from densely packed mossy crystal growths called dendrites. Speckled throughout the lovely green color are tiny spots of red jasper which resemble drops of blood from which this stone gets its name. Bloodstone has been popular as a semi-precious gemstone for thousands of years and many legends are associated with it. In the Middle Ages, bloodstone was attributed special powers as the spots were thought to be the blood of Jesus Christ. It was used in sculptures representing flagellation and martyrdom. Bloodstone is also a birthstone for March. It is found in India, Brazil and Mexico. Comes with a descriptive card. Inquire about quantity purchases. $.99 each or $14.00 per pound

Moss Agate -  (also called mocha stone) is a semi-precious gemstone formed from silicon dioxide. This mineral is commonly found in limestone and granite. It is a form of agate which includes minerals of a green color embedded in the chalcedony, forming filaments and other patterns suggestive of moss. It also sometimes resembles blue-cheese. The field is a clear or milky-white quartz, and the included minerals are mainly oxides of manganese or iron. Moss agate is of the white variety with green inclusions that resemble moss. It occurs in many locations. The colors are formed due to trace amounts of metal present as an impurity, such as chrome or iron. The metals can make different colors depending on their valence.

Despite its name, moss agate does not contain organic matter and is usually formed from weathered volcanic rocks.

Montana moss agate is an agate found in the alluvial gravels of the Yellowstone River and its tributaries between Sidney and Billings, Montana. The agate originally was formed in the Yellowstone National Park area of Wyoming as a result of volcanic activity. In Montana moss agate the red color is the result of iron oxide, the black is there result of manganese oxide.

As far as mystical properties, moss agates are considered the most powerful of the agates. It was the agate of warriors. Moss agate is the most powerful of the agates that helps balance emotional energy. It helps the user to let go of anger and bitterness, so the emotions are balanced. When used in jewelry the moss agate is believed to bring the wearer health, friends and riches. Moss agate enhances concentration, persistence, endurance and success in one's endeavors. It is an abundance stone. $.99 each or $18.00 per pound

Carnelian -  (also spelled cornelian) is a reddish-brown mineral which is commonly used as a semi-precious gemstone. Similar to carnelian is sard, which is generally harder and darker. (The difference is not rigidly defined, and the two names are often used interchangeably.) Both carnelian and sard are varieties of the silica mineral chalcedony colored by impurities of iron oxide. The color can vary greatly, ranging from pale orange to an intense almost-black coloration. Carnelian was recovered from Bronze Age Minoan layers at Knossos on Crete in a form that demonstrated its use in decorative arts; this use dates to approximately 1800 BC. Carnelian was used widely during Roman times 2000 years before the present era to make signet or seal rings for imprinting a seal with wax on correspondence or other important documents. Hot wax does not stick to Carnelian. Sard was used for Assyrian cylinder seals, Egyptian and Phoenician scarabs, and early Greek and Etruscan gems. The Hebrew odem (translated sardius), the first stone in the High Priest's breastplate, was a red stone, probably sard but perhaps red jasper. $.99 each or $18.00 per pound

Unpolished Baltic Amber - Amber is any natural resin which oozed its way out of a tree and eventually fossilized at any time from recent times back to the Carboniferous Period of some 300 million years ago. Amber is generally yellow or yellow brown and translucent, and it is pretty when polished. In its fresh form, resin has been known to collect insects or leaves in its sticky clutches, preserving them in visually perfect splendor for thousands of years. While an occasional large insect may be preserved in amber, it is usually smaller ones because the larger ones were able to get out of the stickey resin. Resins which can become amber are found wherever certain kinds of trees oozing sap (a few conifers and angiosperms) are found--almost everywhere in the northern hemisphere of our planet.

Baltic amber (known as succinite) is a specific subset of amber that is found only in northern Europe: it accounts for some 80% of the known amber in the world. Between 35 and 50 million years ago, sap oozed out from a forest of conifers (probably either false larch or kauri) in the region now covered by the Baltic Sea, and eventually hardened into clear lumps. Shoved around northern Europe by glaciers and river channels, lumps of genuine Baltic amber can still be found today on the eastern coasts of England and Holland, throughout Poland, Scandinavia and northern Germany and much of western Russia and the Baltic states.

There is no telling what, if anything, you might find after polishing this amber. I have found some very nice insect specimens. Instructions for polishing are included. This Baltic Amber is priced at $.95 per gram. The pictured pieces weigh from 5 grams to 16 grams.
