 Fossil
Kuichausaur - I had to scan this in two parts because it is too
big for my scanner. The matrix measures 7" x 15". It was excavated in
China.
About
215 million years old, Keichousaur is a
member of the Nothosauria order of long-necked marine animals and
lived during the Triassic Period, and went extinct during the later
Triassic period. They probably evolved into the plesiosaurs as a
result of changing environment. Keichousaur was neither a fish nor an
amphibian. Rather, it was a reptile that phylogenetically descended
from a land-dwelling ancestor -- similar to how the ancestors of
whales were once land dwellers. They ranged from a few inches to 20
feet long. Keichousaur had four wide, paddle-like limbs with webbed
fingers and toes, a long neck with a slender skull set with many sharp
teeth (the front teeth were longer than the back teeth), nostrils
located on the top end of the snout because they breathed air (but
spent most of the time in the water), a short compact body, and a very
long tail. Often
the head is not present because when Keichousaur died, often his head
was upside down and only the jaw shows. - $495.00 |

both ammonite and orthoceras. This plate
weighs about 15 pounds. I have several similar. $140.00
each ($15.00 shipping) |

Incredible Crinoid Plate - Crinoids or
"sea lilies" are an ancient sea creature closely related to starfish
- an animal that looks like a plant. Their
skeleton was comprised of a root-like structure attached to a stem made up of many disc
shaped plates called columnals. At the top of the stem was the head or calyx which the
arms of the crinoid were attached. the arms were used to filter food out of the water.
After death, most crinoid skeletons would fall apart leaving behind only the
columns and
small plates that made up the calyx. Complete specimens of crinoids are rare finds. This
beautiful plate has two complete crinoids with head and stem. $250.00 ($15.00
shipping) |

- Orthoceras Tower
Sculpture - This is truly an unusual
display piece. When cutting around and polishing the fossils,
the person working on it made a statue out of the matrix measuring
about 11" tall. It is beautiful and most unusual. I was able to get
several of these - all similar to the one pictured. Orthoceras was an ancient
squid-like character that lived more
than 400 million years ago. The name means straight horn, referring to
the characteristic long, straight, conical shell. The preserved shell
is all that remains of this ancestor of our modern-day squid.

= Dinosaur
Egg - I believe this
fossilized egg once belonged to Hadrosaurid
dinosaur (commonly just called Hadrosaur or Hadrosaurus). Hadrosaurids
(meaning "bulky lizards") were a family of duck-billed, herbivorous
dinosaurs that laid their eggs in nests with a dozen or more eggs.
While hatching and scavenging would normally destroy most eggs,
occasional eggs were fossilized as seen here. Dinosaur eggs such as
this with about 30% of the shell intact are scarce.
This one was
excavated in China. These are skyrocketing in price and are getting
more difficult to find, Value is approximately $450.00 - $250.00 |

F005 |
Mosasaur
Jawbone - This is an outstanding, museum quality, mosasaur
jaw with 4 magnificent teeth. My fossil wholesaler got three of these
in his last shipment and I purchased the nicest of the three.
Mosasaurs (pronounced MOES-ah-SAWR) were giant snake-like marine
reptiles. These reptiles were powerful swimmers that had adapted to
living in shallow seas. They were carnivores and breathed air. They
were the largest lizards that ever lived, attaining lengths of almost
60 feet with a skull that was 6 feet long. It ate large fish,
shellfish, and sharks. They lived during the same period (end of
Jurassic early Cretaceous) that T-Rex roamed the earth and could
easily be considered the T-Rex of the prehistoric seas. They were
discovered in the second half of the 18th century in the Netherlands,
but remains have since been found in many regions over the globe. This
one was excavated in Morocco. $75.00 |

Sliced
Ammonite - These next four items are gorgeous ammonites that have
been sliced and polished. These are all museum quality and about
2" in diameter. These are representative of ones I have. I have
pictured the ones I have been able to put together as a pair. There
are three price ranges - $18, $20, and $29. The $18 ones are normal
color. The $20 ones have crystals. The $29 are more rare because of
their incredible colors. No two are alike and the pictures are
representative of the ones I have. Some are available as a pair and
others I was not able to find the matching piece.
Ammonites are an
extinct group
of marine animals of the
subclass
Ammonoidea in the
class
Cephalopoda,
phylum
Mollusca. They
are excellent
index fossils,
and it is often possible to link the rock layer in which they are
found to specific
geological time periods.
Ammonites' closest living relative is
probably not the modern
Nautilus
(which they outwardly resemble), but rather the subclass
Coleoidea (octopus,
squid, and
cuttlefish).
Their
fossil shells
usually take the form of planispirals, although there were some
helically-spiraled and non-spiraled forms (known as "heteromorphs").
Their name came from their spiral shape as their fossilized shells
somewhat resemble tightly-coiled
rams' horns.
Pliny the Elder
(79 A.D. near Pompeii) called fossils of these animals ammonis
cornua ("horns of Ammon") because the Egyptian god Ammon (Amun)
was typically depicted wearing ram's horns.
Often the name of an ammonite genus ends in -ceras, which is
Greek (κέρας)
for "horn" (for instance, Pleuroceras).

Small Trilobite - These
beauties measures a little over 1.5" long and have excellent detail.
The trilobite was perhaps the most common inhabitant of Earth's
primitive seas. Dozens of species of trilobites have been identified
and they existed for more than 200 million years before becoming
extinct. Sometimes referred to as "mud bugs," trilobites lived on or
near the soft sea floor and probably ate the remains of other sea
creatures which had died. The species name of this trilobite is
flexicalymene and it came from Morocco. $4.00 each |

Authentic
Framed Pre-historic Woolly
Mammoth Hair - Fossils are relatively commonplace, but how often do you see
the hair from a prehistoric animal? I was fortunate enough to obtain a small
quantity of this hair from a museum in Russia and have created several displays
using it. This nice framed 5" x 7" display contains a generous amount of the
authentic hair from the prehistoric woolly mammoth. I will occasionally see a
fossil dealer offering this hair, but the quantity is a fraction of that I use in
my displays. This hair survived the thousands of years because the mammoth was
frozen in ice in Siberia all of that time. Believe it or not, I understand the
meat from the animal was still edible. Here's your chance to pick up a most
unusual ancient artifact, some 15,000 years old from the one animal that most
symbolizes the Ice Age. The mammoth was found at Yakutia, Russia and that
excavation received extensive television coverage. Like most of my displays, the
backing contains a brief history of the woolly mammoth. Please see the companion
piece to this below - a similar display with a piece of woolly mammoth tusk that
was excavated in Central Texas. I have created several of these displays and the
picture is representative. $49.00 |

See F019A -
This is an outstanding deal. for individuals wanting to create and
resell woolly mammoth hair. The way most do it is to print a
descriptive card and put the card and 2-3 of the hairs in a Lucite
sports card holder. These are normally sold for between $19 and $40.
There is enough hair in these packages to do 15-20 of these displays.

Authentic Framed Pre-historic Woolly Mammoth Tusk - This nice framed 5" x 7"
display contains a nice size piece of authentic tusk from the prehistoric woolly
mammoth Like most of my displays, the backing contains a brief history of the
woolly mammoth's tusk. Please see above for the companion piece to this - a
similar display with a generous amount of authentic woolly mammoth hair. This
piece of woolly mammoth tusk was excavated in near New Braunfels, Texas. The frame will
match the frame that the Woolly Mammoth Hair comes in if ordered at the same
time. $17.50 |

Giant
Megalodon Tooth - 5 3/8" long - This is a really huge Megalodon
shark's tooth. This prehistoric fossil tooth is millions of years old,
nice serrations, and once served its owner well - the giant extinct
megalodon shark - the largest predator that ever lived. There is a
little wear to the upper right root. The tooth is about 5 3/8" long
and still has good enamel and a sharp edge. This baby, who was
probably somewhere between 60 and 80 feet in length, would have been
hard to haul in on the heaviest tackle. Millions of years ago he swam
in the warm waters which covered much of Earth. The actual
value of this tooth is in the neighborhood of $300. $225.00 |

Gigantic Megalodon Shark Tooth -
The movie "Jaws" struck fear in millions of
people world-wide. What could be worse than being attacked by a twenty two foot
long Great White Shark? Answer: Being attacked by Megalodon Carcharodon, his
great, great grand pappy. Although long extinct, Megalodon reached approximately
eighty feet in length - almost four times the length of "Jaws." The shark this
tooth came from lived in the warm waters of earth during the Miocene-Pliocene
Epoch - approximately 24.5 to 1.5 million years ago. His jaws could open wide
enough to drive a small pickup truck through - some seven feet from top to
bottom. This huge damaged tooth was found in a North Carolina river bed.
Were it a complete tooth, it would be valued at over $200.00. The picture is
representative. I have created several of these displays. $19.95 |

These Andalousiana
or
Andalusiana Trilobites come
from the Cambrian Acadian formation in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco,
North Africa. They are estimated to be 500 to 600 million years old!
The segments are very noticeable, nicely spaced, and retain their
original structure. These trilobites make very unusual and dramatic
display pieces, as well as being great conversation pieces. They
measure over 7". Trilobites, which are similar to the modern-day
